Are the Jets trying to silence the locker room from the old regime by removing vocal leaders? Thomas Jones, Kerry Rhodes and now possibly Jay Feely all had decent seasons (some will argue KR), but have been left out with the trash so to speak.
According to Foxsports.com, Free Agent Kicker Jay Feely is expected to visit with the Arizona Cardinals:
One of the best free-agent kickers on the market is heading to Arizona for a free-agent visit. A source told FOXSports.com that Jay Feely is scheduled to visit this weekend with Cardinals officials.
On the heels of the Jets letting go of verteran and locker room leader Thomas Jones, Jay is viewed as another great player that leads by example. Jay would potential be reuniting with 2009 teammate Kerry Rhodes and if we let Jay go, I think it could be a mistake.
Yes Jay is “just” a kicker, but if you follow his twitter account and see his actions off the field, he oozes leadership. Jay has changed the way a Kicker can be a significant leader on and off the field. His toughness to tackle mull people over, is top notch. On the field, he’s been a monster. Not bad from a guy who was originally un-drafted and has been a career nomad across the NFL.
Vocal Leaders from the Old Regime Thrown to the Curb?
My first theory was that the Jets want to remove the vocal players from the team, but if that theory held true, then Bart Scott is the next guy to go, so I’ll put a twist to my theory: They want to get rid of vocal guys from the “Old Regime”, players not brought in or deemed “Rex’s guys”.
Why else would they let players who were near the top of the league in their respective positions in 2009: Kerry Rhodes (He was still ranked high as a Safety), Thomas Jones (Career High in Rushing), and Jay Feely (Solid Year).
Maybe this is the changing of the guard to hand the Jets over to Mark Sanchez. They certainly couldn’t do it while the above mentioned ran the shop, so they bring in the guys they want instead of inheriting players from the Mangini regime.
You can’t say that they are getting rid of all older veterans who are vocal because then why bring in LaDainian Tomlinson? I believe they want to sent a message to the players that this is going to be Mark’s team and if you happen to be a verteran, take a back seat, help out as much as you can, but let the young guys take over.
So do you agree or disagree with me? Let me hear your thoughts?
