The Top 5 Jets Rumors for the 2010 Offseason (So Far)

by Erik Manassy on March 3, 2010

Grab your hats and hold small children by the hands.  You are about to walk into a wind tunnel.  Jets Twit counts down the top 5 rumors swirling around the New York Jets so far in this 2010 off-season.  Let the Rumor Winds BLOW!

1.  Kerry Rhodes on the Trading Block

This rumor has been out there since the season ended and kind of died down UNTIL Rich Cimini blew on the embers and started the blaze again.  There has been a ton of chatter that now the Jets saved money with Thomas Jones, possibly Feely, the Jets are in position to make a big Trade.  Kerry’s name has been in tons of talk, most recently going to the Bears.

Kerry Rhodes recently tweeted that he had a “productive” lunch with defensive coordinator Mike Pettine. That’s not the way I’m hearing it. Me thinks Rhodes’ future still is a bit up in the air.

2.  The Jets are interested in Antonio Cromartie

Depending on what source you believe, some say yes, our main guy Cimini says no:

TheJetsStream: Rumor that Jets are interested in trading for SD CB Antonio Cromartie, but two sources tell me it ain’t so. Chargers want him out of AFC.

Clark Judge from cbssports.com says his sources say yes:

A source at the annual NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis told me the Jets are interested, and a source close to the team didn’t rule it out. The Jets are looking for a cornerback to pair with All-Pro Darrelle Revis, and Cromartie is available … for the right price, of course. But the Chargers aren’t just testing the waters here; they want to trade the guy, frustrated and fed up with him after only four years of service.

3.  Adalius Thomas Wants to be a Jet

Adalius did not come out and say he wants to be a Jet, he can thank his good buddy and current Jet Bart Scott:

“It’s funny,” Scott said. “I was hanging with Adalius Thomas for Super Bowl weekend. We’re buddies from back in the day. He made it public that he’s expressed an interest in joining (Jets coach) Rex (Ryan). I think some of his better years of his career have been a part of the Ravens defense and under Rex Ryan’s tutelage. It’ll be exciting.”

4.  Chad Pennington is Coming Back to the New York Jets to Backup Sanchez or Coach

Out of the horses mouth, Chad spoke with Rich Cimini and said:

“I’d be crazy not to be interested,” the current Dolphin said at a youth-football clinic, one of many NFL-sponsored events during Super Bowl week. “Once you think you’re too big where you can’t entertain every opportunity, you’d better be careful because you’ll be looking from the outside in.”

The rumor mill started to swirl that his career was over and that he was going to come back to coach.  Other’s had him backing up Mark Sanchez who then came out publicly and welcomed the idea.

5. Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha wants to be a Jet

During the Pro-Bowl, Darrelle Revis and Nnamdi spent a ton of time together and both were quoted that they would love to play together.  The rumor then started that Asomugha was coming to the Jets in a trade OR Revis was going to the Raiders.  Probably from too much heat, Nnamdi then rescinded his words and said it was a joke all along.

So how did we do?  Did we miss one?  Which rumor do you think is going to come true, if any!?  LET US KNOW!

    29th pick overall. Worth it?

Trading down in 2nd round to maybe get a CB.

Is it happening? I hope so.
