Jets Twit wants to thank Don from “No Logo Required”, a blog dedicated to the Cleveland Browns for asking our questions to Mike Tannebaum at his 12pm press conference. NLR will be at the Scouting Combine all week so be sure to go to their site often for up to date information! Don reached out to me today asking me if I wanted to ask any questions.
Here is what I asked:
- Concerning the running back situation, can you shine some light on the status of Leon Washington? Is he being tendered 2nd Round Pick?
- What is the status with Thomas Jones? If we does leave, are you prepared to pick up another back through trade, draft, free agency?
- Are you moving forward with Shonn Greene as your number 1?
- A general question: What are your offseason priorities?
Here are the highlights on my questions, Don told me “I couldn’t get answers to all your questions:”
Regarding RFAs available:
“Rex and I talk about our guys and the few times we’ve looked at RFAs, we’ve put them against who is available in the draft. It’s a balancing act with those two things.”
On Thomas Jones:
“Nothing is finalized, but we’re close to a decision. I will say for a guy we traded for three years ago, he’s been a leader and a tireless worker.”
On Leon Washington:
“Leon is doing better. He’s been doing some walking in our underwater treadmill. He’s a tireless worker and I’d never bet against Leon.”
On Braylon Edwards:
“He’ll be an important part of our offseason workouts. Once we got him, he’s helped in our run game. He’s a tremendous blocker and he did a lot of things that didn’t show up in the stat sheet. We will tender him.
But what about the drops?
“It’s about being more consistent. You saw in the Monday Night game against the Dolphins the spectacular catches he made. The more training he has the more opportunities he’ll be consistent.”
Here is Don’s summary of the 12pm presser he did addressing the media:
12 p.m. – Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum touched on a few things that were Browns related. In a question about Braylon Edwards’ drops, Tannenbaum thinks more training in the offseason will bring more consistency during the season.
Naturally, someone asked what makes this season so different?
“Have you been to Florham Park (New Jersey),” Tannenbaum said. “I’ve been to Berea and I’ve been to Florham Park and Florham Park is beautiful in March.”
Laughter ensued because, well, nobody in Tannenbaum’s audience was from Berea. I don’t know much about Florham Park, but I do know Berea is a lovely city.
Anyway, Tannenbaum is pleased with the development of Mark Sanchez. As you all know, Sanchez came to New York thanks to a trade with the Browns.
“Mark’s been in our office all week evaluating the ‘drought’ he had in the middle of the season,” he said. “The trade was great for both sides. Cleveland got extra picks and we were fortunate enough to get Mark.”
Mike is vague on some of the issues and I didn’t expect him to go into details until he’s ready. So what do you think of Mike Tannenbaum’s Comments? Let us KNOW!
