According to mlive.com, the Detroit Lions will be playing the New England Patriots or the New York Jets this Thanksgiving Day. The last time a Jets team played on Thanksgiving was during the 2007 season where the New York took on the Dallas Cowboys. They lost that game 34-3.
If the Jets play this year on Thanksgiving, this will make it the fourth time in franchise history:
- Nov. 23, 1972 – Detroit Lions 37, New York Jets 20
- Nov. 28, 1985 – Detroit Lions 31, New York Jets 20
- Nov. 22, 2007 – Dallas Cowboys 34, New York Jets 3
The Detroit Lions’ opponents for the 2010 season already have been determined and Detroit will host either the New England Patriots or New York Jets on Thanksgiving.
In the rotating schedule, it’s time for an AFC team to visit Detroit and those are the only two AFC teams the Lions will host next season.
So the Jets are 0-3 on Turkey Day. If I was making the decision, I would vote no against them appearing on the holiday due to their history of not having success. I know the league will probably want to see Rex and the Jets due to their swag for a national audience. Who will bring in more ratings, the Jets or the Patriots?
What do you think? Do you want the Jets to play on Thanksgiving?
