Sanchez Talks About Rex’s Middle Finger

by Adam Greenbaum on February 6, 2010

Appearing “The Dan Patrick Show,”Mark Sanchez was asked about the recent Rex Ryan middle finger incident, his response? Rex was “taking all the pressure off of me.” “He was like in character, he was almost one of the fighters, getting into it with the crowd,” Sanchez said of Ryan. “He grabbed the microphone and said, ‘We’re coming down to Miami, we’re gonna win both games,’ and that’s totally his personality. He just took it over the edge a little bit.”

As most of you know, Rex Ryan was fined $50,000 by the Jets Organization for the finger incident, although new details ahve come out showing that Ryan was mightily provoked with vulgar language and was spit on. “If you see the clip, the fan was getting pretty nasty,” said Sanchez. “There’s no excuse for doing something like that, and Rex knows that. He got hit with a big-time fine, but it was just too bad.”

Later on the Boomer and Carton show, Sanchez was again asked about it saying that Rex told him to avoid doing the same thing. “He said, ‘Whatever you do, don’t do any of that.”

I’m sure this is a good lesson for not only those involved, but other coaches and players in any type of league. When you make millions of dollars and spend most of your time in the news, expect to be heckled, and learn to walk away. Now, if I was Rex and someone told me to die and spit on me, they’d be in big trouble. Then again, I’m not Rex.
