I thought I would share a typical interaction with a Dolphins fan who I work with that happened today. It started yesterday after a meeting where in passing I told him the Jets are a better team than the Dolphins. I know the Dolphins swept us, but just because they beat us does not make them a better team. I clearly crawled under his skin with this five second interaction. He then wrote me this book:

Subject: Stopl Believing the HypeErik,
After listening to you after yesterday afternoon’s meeting
emphasizing how the Jests are so much a better team than Miami, and even
more troubling seeing that you actually believed what you were saying, I
thought I would try and help you. How anyone can believe that a team
that lost, not once, but twice to another team is better than that team
can only be attributed to being a Jests fan.Yeah, you were quick to point out that the Jests have a better record
than the Dolphins. Please, one more win than the Dolphins is not
something I would be basing my argument. I did try to allow you to bow
out graciously by attributing your 1 win advantage to Miami playing a
tougher schedule to date. However, as expected, (since most Jests fans
can’t see the obvious) you insisted that the Jests played the same level
of tough opponents; i.e., the Saints & Patriots.I have to say this did aggrevate me on my ride home last night. I don’t
know why, but I still felt as though I need to help you. I guess I’m a
sucker for those who are delusional. So, last night I did a little
research (and it only took a few minutes to again, see the obvious).Below are the combined records of the teams Miami and the Jests have
played to date which have resulted in the Jests outstanding 1 game lead:MIAMI
OPPONENTS & RECORDS:Falcons 5-3/L
Colts 8-0/L
Chargers 5-3/L
Bills 3-5/W
Jests 4-4/W
Bye
Saints 8-0/L
Jests 4-4/W
Patriots 6-2/LSo, to sum it up; Miami has played teams with a combined 43-21 record.
Now, lets look at the Jests opponents:Texans 5-4/W
Patriots 6-2/W
Titans 2-6/W
Saints 8-0/L
Miami 3-5/L
Bills 3-5/L
Raiders 2-6/W
Miami 3-5/L
ByeThe Jests, over the same period of time (where they’ve amassed their
amazing 4-4 record), has played opponents with a combined 32-33
record….HmmmLets take a further look at the data:
* Miami has played only 1 team that has a losing record, while the
Jests have played against 5 having losing records (in only 8 weeks);
* Miami has played teams with an amazing 11 more wins than the teams
the Jests have faced;
* Although Miami has played the only 2 undefeated teams, we lost by a
combined 16 points; you have only played the Saints and lost by 14;
* Our common opponents (Bills, Saints & Patriots) we’re both 1-3 – a
wash;
* You played the Patriots when Brady was still unsure of himself; we
played him coming off a two game stretch where they beat their opponents
94-7;
* You played the Titans when they did not have a win; they are also
hitting their stride in the last couple of weeks when we have to face
them;
* Our combined offensive points scored are 193 while the Jests are 180
(and I do not believe Miami has a high powered offense; yet);(
* Miami has only lost to teams with winning records, 3 of the 4 Jests
losses have been to teams with losing records;
* Again, that undeniable stat, our head-to-head meetings on the field
where it counts, we are 2-0 against the Jests.So, if you still want to continue to take that Rex Ryan stance of, “they
may have beat us twice, but we still have a better record”; keep
believing it. However, if you are the educated man I think you are, you
will sit down and hope your Jests are able to hang onto that 1 win lead.
I know you are also praying that Miami does not end up beating the
Patriots at home because seeing that large Miami magnet on your car will
be even sweater for us Dolfans!As we know, time will tell and we’ll let the records at the end of the
season speak for themselves. Good luck, I think the Jests are going to
need it more in the second half of the season than we will.Your Friendly Neighborhood Dolphin Fan!
PS: Please, for your sake, don’t speak anymore about the records!
After I got done laughing, I shot this off:

Subject: RE: Stopl Believing the HypeMission accomplished! LOL! I clearly CLEARLY got under
your skin! ROTFLMAO!Oh, we are still the better team. Number 1 rushing team in the NFL,
Miami: 5 Yes we are 27 in passing, but Miami is 29. We have a better
record AND we will be playing the same teams. Oh and we totally
adjusted and shut down your wild cat. Probably the only team to do
that. We lost by special teams. Yeah, I know we lost, but our D let
your potent offense have 102 total yards that game. DOMINATION!In Total offense we are ranked 13, you 23. We have a Rookie QB. We lost a
dynamic Back AND a force in Jenkins on the D line and Still kicked your
butt.We are the number 1 ranked defense. You, 21. We are ranked 8th in
special team, you 15th.
Oh, and I too want to help delusional people: It’s the JETS not the Jests.
