I’m catching up on all the articles on players reactions and post game interviews. The most interesting comments are coming from the unit that lost the Jets the game, the defense.
In fact, the defense has been talking all season. Most teams are calling Rex Ryan’s group cocky, but after the first three games, people were allowing them to talk smack because they were just SHUTTING down the opposition.
This week is different as it was the Jets defense that lost them the game this week by allowing the Dolphins to expose the how you defeat an aggressive D by using the “Wild Cat”.
I must say the players are all over the place with how they feel about their unit and the game against the Dolphins.
Kris Jenkins thinks his teammates should do their talking on the field.
“When we were winning, everyone was talking about how good we’ve been doing, and ‘Look at me,’ but when we lose nobody got nothing to say. My feelings are hurt because a lot of people consider me a team leader, but I don’t want to hang my hat on that. I don’t want to hang my hat on games where guys aren’t playing together and stuff like that.”
Calvin Pace needs to close his mouth. He just came off a four game suspension for taking an illegal banned substance and naturally so, looked VERY RUSTY on Monday Night.
What was surprising was the terms he used to describe the ‘Phins QB as a “Clown”. He also called the “Wild Cat” a Gimmick. The dolphins were very quick to fire back with most of the criticism coming form ex-Jet Jason Ferguson and Channing Crowder.
Said Crowder:
“Nonsense, I love nonsense. They say gimmick, gimmick this, gimmick that. We’ve won games with the Wildcat. They ran two fake punts. So if you’re going to say gimmicks, those are real gimmicks. Wildcat is an offensive formation, they run it for two years. They have thousands of plays on film about it, go stop it…. Shut up about all the junk talking and whatever they’re talking about they ain’t going to give us no credit. We’ll see them in three more weeks, we got to play them again, so the hell with them.”
Now I can’t stand Channing as much as the next Jets fan, but um, he’s got a point Calvin. You need to put a sock in it until the defense can sustain dominance. Stop making excuses, admit mistakes, and move on.
Today, Calvin said this:
“I said some things and I definitely should have probably thought about it — rephrased it a little bit,” Pace said after Wednesday’s practice. “I respect the Dolphins and I respect everything they do. They beat us. It’s not like they stole the game from us.”
Other players, Darrelle Revis and Kerry Rhodes did their talking on Twitter, I posted about this earlier, and admitted they messed up. That my friends is called accountability. Kerry then took some MAJOR ribbing from non-Jet fans and I’ll admit I’ve never seen Kerry so fired up before. He posted that he was going to be quiet on Twitter, and it was looking that was going to be the case, but later today he tweeted this:
Use your imagination on what he meant to say with the ____.
Kerry is usually a cool cat on Twitter, but I read the posts, and people were egging him on and claiming he was saying things and putting words or “tweets” into his mouth. I guess Kerry needed some time to cool off.
I have no doubt that this loss was a major learning experience and the defense will right this ship. They have Buffalo this week at 4:15. We will see what defense decides to show up.
